Let me start by taking a minute to introduce myself. My name is Erin Imer. I’m a stay-at-home mom to 2 kiddos who are 7 and 4. I’ve been married to my husband, Matt, for 11 years and we have lived in Valparaiso for 7 out of those 11 years.
When I think about ways to describe myself, 3 things always come to my mind. Follower of Jesus; Disney nerd; crazy planner.
Those last 2 things are the reason why I decided to apply to become a Disney Travel Agent!
As a child, I went to Disney a few times, but it wasn’t until Matt and I were dating that I really fell in love with the place.
We have been together for the last 15 years and in those 15 years, we have gone to Disney probably 6 or 7 times. Once we had kids, we knew it was a place we wanted to try to go every other year.
We decided to take a trip in 2016 with my sister and her husband. Zachary was 4 and Addison was almost 2 when we went. I did a TON of research beforehand. I knew about all the best restaurants and rides for the littles. I left no stone unturned and I loved every second of it. We used a Disney travel agent for that trip, but the person was VERY unavailable. They took several days to answer my emails and were often very short with me when I had questions.
So when we were in the midst of planning our trip for November 2018, I made sure I went with a different travel agent. This person was a friend of mine and she was wonderful :) About 2 months before we left for our trip, my husband and I were having a conversation and we decided that I had done so much planning and so much research on my own that I should start doing this for other people.
So I took the plunge and started applying to a few travel agencies. I was contacted by one of Disney’s Platinum companies, Magical Vacation Planners. They hired me and I never looked back. I’m still fresh in the biz, and all of my trips that I’ve booked have been for friends and family. But I am really enjoying making magic happen!
What Disney Travel Agent Does
So what do I do as a travel agent? Glad you asked! I start by booking your trip. You give me the dates and I can give you quotes based on what is available and what resort you’d like to stay in.
You’re not sure which resort? I’ll give you a list and you can look through them and get back to me! Once we have that all figured out, you put down your deposit (a refundable $200), and that’s it for a while.
When you are 180 days away from your trip, you can start booking your dining reservations. I will wake up at 5am and take care of those for you to get as close to the times and places that you’d like.
At 60 days, it’s fast pass time! Then we make sure all of your travel information is ready (flights, etc), and send you off on your magical trip.
How much does a travel agent cost? NOTHING! There is no extra cost to use a Disney travel agent! I highly recommend using one for your next trip; even if it’s not me, I guess ;) It takes so much of the stress off the traveler.
I’m excited to share some of my insider tips and tricks of booking a Disney vacation in some upcoming blogs! I’m always available to answer any questions you may have.
I was telling my neighbor not too long ago that I NEVER get tired of talking Disney! My husband even told the kids “mommy is outside talking Disney. She might never come inside” HA!
Stay tuned for the next blog where I'll talk about the trip that I just got back from and tell you all the ups and downs of Disney in July!
Have a magical day, friends!!!
